Garde la tête froide ! Jeu éducatif pour comprendre le rôle d’une bonne régulation des émotions sur le fonctionnement du cerveau chez les 20-25 ans
Abstract
This study is part of the Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Educational Neuroscience and explores the impact of emotional regulation on the clinical reasoning of midwifery students (MS) at the Haute École de Santé Vaud (HESAV). Recognizing that these students face challenges in effectively mobilizing their executive functions in stressful situations, particularly during clinical internships, an educational board game – HOT SPOT Garde la tête froide – was designed and tested. This game aims to raise MS awareness of the brain mechanisms involved in stress management and provide them with concrete emotional self-regulation strategies. The study adopts an approach that combines cognitive neuroscience and active pedagogy. Key concepts include the role of executive functions, neuroplasticity, and the importance of the prefrontal cortex in decision-making under pressure. Results from questionnaires administered before and after the game experiment indicate a significant improvement in participants' understanding and management of emotions. Furthermore, the MS perceived the game as beneficial not only for their training but also for their daily lives. The findings highlight the effectiveness of playful approaches in learning and suggest the integration of similar tools in the training of healthcare professionals. This study also paves the way for future research on the impact of neuroeducation in improving clinical skills and emotional resilience.
