According to the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science, "open science establishes a new paradigm that incorporates practices of transparency, sharing and collaboration resulting from the increased openness of scientific content, tools and processes". Cortica is committed to the Open Science movement and to the popularization of science, with the aim of achieving greater equity in access to scientific knowledge for the general public, as well as contributing to citizen scientific literacy. One of our priorities is to democratize knowledge and make research accessible to the general public. Based on the assumptions that (1) the brain been neglected in discussions on education for far too long and (2) information about evidence-based neuroscience research is not easy to access, this Cortica issue highlights the importance of anchoring education in an evidence base derived from neuroscience. Hence, Cortica volume 4 provides perspectives, journal club and "Cortica Explain to me" articles relevant to learning, memory, education, neurosciences and health psychology.
